Services

Paul (left) lives at Ashirvad, while his younger
brother Daveedu cannot because he must work
in the fields of the nearby village where he lives
to help support his family.
Without Ashirvad Children's Home, these children would be wandering the streets of Tuni and the surrounding villages, not knowing where to find their next meal or where to sleep. Many would be forced into bonded child labor, commercial begging, or even prostitution.
Ashirvad saves these children from that fate and gives them hope for the future. The children are welcomed into a loving, nurturing environment, where all of their physical, emotional, and spiritual needs are met.
Ashirvad would like to save even more children, but needs your help. Please consider supporting the orphanage by visiting our Support page.
Physical Needs

The children gathered together for a meal.
Ashirvad provides the children with food, clean drinking water and medical care. The children also have access to indoor toilets with plumbing, and shower daily.
The children receive three meals a day. For breakfast they have buttermilk and rice, and then eat curry and rice for lunch and dinner. On Tuesdays and Fridays, they receive an egg with lunch, and on Sundays they receive chicken, fish, or prawns. In the evening they also recieve a glass of milk and snacks such as biscuits, bread, or bananas.
Ashirvad also makes special meals like the indian classic chicken biryani for the children for important holidays and birthdays.
Medical care is provided by a nurse who is also a teacher at the orphanage, and a local doctor also volunteers to care for the children when necessary.
It is easy to take these things for granted, but in rural India these amenities are very rare, especially for the poorest in the society. Without the orphanage, the children would have to rely on begging or picking through garbage for food, would not shower, and would have no medical care whatsoever.
Shelter
The new Ashirvad Children's Home building provides a safe shelter for the children as well as bathroom facilities. There are 34 double cots, which can sleep 68 of the children.
The children have indoor bathrooms, and get to shower everyday before school. In summer due to the increased heat, they each shower twice a day.
A recent donation from an Ashirvad supporter allowed for the basement to be fully finished with windows and electricity, which created more usable space for the children. There are more building and grounds renovations that need funding on the Special Projects page in the Support section.
Clothing
Each child gets a school uniform, and several sets of recreational clothes. They also have received special Christmas clothes the past two years due to special donations from Ashirvad supporters.

Education
Ashirvad provides primary and secondary education for all children, as well as vocational training. Children learn Telagu, the local language, as well as some English. School at the orphanage starts at the age of 5, and goes through 10th grade. Then children begin taking Junior College/pre-University classes, which prepare them for University studies, or research work.

Emotional and Spiritual Development
In addition to providing the physical and educational needs of the children, Ashirvad teaches the children the love that God has for each and every one of them. In the caste society of India, it is normal for children in their situation to feel inferior, so Ashirvad focuses on raising the self-image of these children as valuable children of God.
